Ministers from South Africa and Zimbabwe have discussed mutual issues of defence and security.
They’ve pledged to strengthen the fight against cross-border crime, using intelligence agencies from both countries.
Defence Minister Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula has been quick to dismiss claims that migrants are responsible for most crimes.
“It is not just foreign nationals who are involved in soft criminality,” she said.
“Our correctional facilities are overflowing and 99% of people who are in our correctional facilities are in fact South Africans.”
They’ve also discussed the recent xenophobic attacks in South Africa.
Zimbabwe has praised its neighbour for how it dealt with the violence.
With 27 signed memorandums of understanding and agreements between them, South Africa and Zimbabwe continue to build their relationship.
The two countries have further committed to strengthening their security relations while helping to maintain peace and stability in the SADC region.
