Mandela’s grandson to be sentenced for assault

Former President Nelson Mandela’s grandson Zwelivelile Mandla Mandela is expected to be sentenced in the Mthatha Magistrate’s Court in the Eastern Cape on Tuesday.

He was convicted of assaulting Mthatha teacher Mlamli Ngudle two years ago.

While the Chief of Mvezo, Mandela was found guilty of assault, he was acquitted on a charge of pointing a firearm.

Mandela attacked Ngudle at Sprigg Street in Mthatha in 2013 after he allegedly bumped a car belonging to Mandela’s business associates.

According to Ngudle, Mandela slapped him across the face and kicked him while pointing him with a firearm. Magistrate Noluthando Conjwa said there was no evidence supporting the allegation of a firearm.
