Medupi’s Unit 6 has officially gone online.
It was launched by President Jacob Zuma in Limpopo on Sunday.
The unit will pump a much-needed 800 megawatts into the country’s electricity supply.
President Zuma says the economy will benefit from the switch-on.
But at the same time, Koeberg’s Unit 2 will be offline for three months of scheduled maintenance, starting on Tuesday.
It will see about 930 megawatts taken off the grid.
Despite this, Eskom says it doesn’t foresee power outages linked to the Koeberg work.
