CNN denies exclusive deal to broadcast Mandela’s funeral

CNNAmerican broadcaster CNN flatly denies any involvement with a rumored deal between Nelson Mandela’s relatives and the company over exclusive rights to broadcast possible future funeral of the first South African black president.

“There is absolutely no truth to the allegation that CNN has bought the rights to the Mandela funeral,” a company spokesperson said.

Earlier South Africa’s The Sunday Independent reported that Mandela’s family claimed CNN had “preferential” access to the funeral ceremony of the former South African leader.

Nelson Mandela, 94, remains in a critical but stable condition in hospital.
