A black man accused of raping a 24-year-old woman has been arrested in Port Alfred, Eastern Cape police said on Monday.

The man was taken into custody on Sunday, said Lieutenant Luvuyo Mjekula.

The woman was walking home on Saturday night when she came across the man.

“He pulled her to the nearby bushes and raped her,” said Mjekula.

The man was among 48 people who were arrested for various crimes in the area between August 28 and Monday.

Those arrested would appear in the Port Alfred and Alexandria magistrate’s courts soon. – Sapa
